BACKGROUND 
UNHCR registration of asylum seekers from Iraq in Al Hol camp is scheduled for December 2018 -January 2019. Asylum seekers will undergo individual registration using UNHCR proGres electronic database and biometric enrolment with IrisGuard. The core of UNHCR receptionist staff will be assisted by a temporary workforce engaged for the duration of the exercise.
 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the UNHCR Registration staff the reception assistant will be expected to:
  • Handling persons of concern and organize their entry into UNHCR reception area in Al-Hol camp;
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Registration Assistant and/or Protection Officer, identify persons with protection and other specific needs for fast track purposes;
  • Schedule appointments prior to the registration exercise in coordination with the head of the registration unit
  • Coordinate with security team on the management of orderly entry into the reception area, and reporting security incidents where applicable;
  • Counsel asylum-seekers, providing them with information at reception and in waiting areas;
  • Assist with creating, organizing, maintaining physical files, including photocopying of documentation prior to registration interviews;
  • Ensure timely and efficient circulation of physical files and other correspondence between reception/registration unit and other desks;
  • Any other duty as may be required.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
 
EDUCATION
  • Completion of secondary education preferably with post-secondary training
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • At least two years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in registration, data collection and/or related fields.
  • Experience working in a humanitarian context is an asset (UN or NGO programmes/projects)
LANGUAGES
  • Fluency in Arabic, basic in English written and oral
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES  
  • Capacity to work in an emergency context under stressful conditions and strict deadlines;
  • good computer skills, including experience with various software applications
